SUPPORT TO SUBSISTENCE FARMERS
Some rural dwellers in Liberia acquire little or no skills that are easily marketable in urban communities. They often remain in rural areas and survive on subsistence farming- feeding on what they grow from the land and what they catch in nearby waterways. One of their major challenges is acquiring modern tools that ply the soil to increase their produce. Sensitive to this challenge, NOCAL provided modern farming tools to some subsistence farmers in the "Poo River" community, lower Montserrado County.
SUPPORT TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Commuters in Liberia lined the streets everyday awaiting vehicles to take them to their respective destinations. They would choose to use other expnesive and even raskier means to get home when sun starts settting. This situation is even worst for primary and secondary students as well as women. Sensitive to these constraints faced by Liberians, NOCAL doanted three brand new bussese to the Natioanal Transit Authority to help increase access to affordable transportation.
CITY GOVERNMENT OF MONROVIA (Park Monrovia Greenspace)
The Monrovia City Government (MCC) invited the National Oil Company of Liberia to participate in developing a city park in the Vai Town area of downtown Monrovia. NOCAL assisted by providing funding for the project. Upon completion of this stage of the Monrovia Greenspace Initiative, this public park will provide a safe, healthy, green space. The park is open to all the citizens of Monrovia, in particular the children.
JOHNSONVILLE LATRINE AND HAND PUMP
At the request of the Johnsonville community, NOCAL participated in the building of latrines and a water well hand pump. NOCAL worked with the Johnsonville community to fund the construction of two latrines and one water well hand pump for community dwellers in and around the township of Johnsonville. This initiative provided much needed safe drinking water and sanitary latrines for the people of this township.
LOGAN TOWN YOUTH CENTER
The young people of the Logan Town community dreamt of developing a small multipurpose Youth Resource Center. A proposal was received from this group. NOCAL, through its CSR Division, collaborated with the young people of Logan to provide a town hall, a well- equipped cyber café with computers and a cable TV network facility. The center was officially dedicated by Her Excellency in July of 2012. This project is self- sustainable
AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN RURAL LIBERIA
In March of 2011, an MOU was signed between the National Housing Authority (NHA) and NOCAL for the construction of 10 Low Cost Housing Units. The housing units are located in three counties in Liberia – Lofa, Nimba and Grand Bassa. The aim of the project is to provide decent and affordable housing.
NOCAL provided NHA with the funds for the construction of these units. Currently, the units in Lofa and Grand Bassa are completed. However, NOCAL deems it necessary to have them upgraded and still has to complete the 10 units in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.
