The National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) has, through the Nyonblee Cares Foundation, provided sponsorship to over 100 high school students from diverse institutions in Paynesville City, Liberia. The initiative is a 3-week STEM vocational program themed “Empowering Minds, Engineering Liberia’s Future.” This initiative, led by Senate President Pro-Tempore Hon. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, provides hands-on learning, mentorship, and real-world applications in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to inspire creativity and problem-solving.
Representing NOCAL’s President–CEO Hon. Fabian Michael Lai, Vice President for Technical Services Hon. Rixck W. Barsi-Giah underscored the program’s alignment with President Joseph N. Boakai’s ARREST Agenda, reaffirming education and technology as drivers of national progress. “STEM education is a strategic investment in Liberia’s future,” he stated, encouraging students to embrace collaboration and lifelong learning as future engineers and scientists.
The program also addresses gender gaps in STEM and advocates for improved educational infrastructure, including the rehabilitation of science laboratories and schools. This initiative positions the STEM Vacation Program as a model for youth empowerment and sustainable development in Liberia.
