Liberia has two main onshore basins: the Lake Piso basin and the Robert-Bassa basin. The confirmed seep in the Bassa basin is a strong geological indicator that the basin's potential is promising and remains open to further exploration.

NOCAL offers operators and interested parties high-quality multiclient data covering offshore Liberia. The data's scope and quality are suitable for exploration and acreage evaluation. The 2D legacy surveys are currently being reprocessed using advanced algorithms to produce a merged depth product.

NOCAL intends to add more data to its existing data to enhance petroleum activities. Some of the data additions will include Multibeam & Seep Sampling Survey, Magnetic and Gravity data, and 2D Near-shore and Deep-to-Ultra-deep 3D Seismic data acquisition. The additional data will benefit Liberia in the following ways:
Check available blocks and submit a Letter of Interest
NOCAL conducts preliminary due diligence
Discuss key terms with NOCAL and sign the letter of engagement
LPRA conducts prequalification, negotiations begin while data is reviewed
PSC is signed and ratified by the legislature
NOCAL is a state-owned institution that manages Liberia’s petroleum resources, including exploration and development to ensure responsible national growth.
: No. NOCAL does not sell oil blocks. The Government, through the Liberia Petroleum Regulatory Authority, actively leases out acreages to reputable International Oil Companies (IOCs). This process involves the signing of a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) between the Government and the IOC, ensuring transparent and strategic collaboration to develop Liberia’s oil resources.
An oil block or petroleum acreage be acquired through three means:
a. Licensing Round (Competitive Bidding)
b. Direct Negotiations
c. Executive Allocation
No. Liberia is not currently producing oil. Exploration is ongoing, and production will begin only if commercially viable reserves are found.
